Suburban streets dangerous for pedestrians
Watch your step. From 2000 to 2009, 1,322 pedestrians died in traffic-related accidents in the suburbs and Chicago.
One major factor is streets that aren't designed with pedestrians and walking in mind, concludes a Transportation for America study, “Dangerous by Design.”
In Illinois, the death toll was 1,659 — 168 were children. Hazardous intersections include Chicago Avenue and South Washington Street in Naperville, the Active Transportation Alliance says.
