Dogs, birds killed in Streamwood fire
A fire killed two dogs and two birds in a Streamwood duplex unit whose owners were out of town Sunday night.
The fire on Juniper Circle was reported by neighbors who encountered smoke when they went to check on the pets at about 8:43 p.m.
Firefighters saw flames in the front of the unit when they arrived. They attempted to resuscitate the two dogs when they located them but were unsuccessful.
The fire was found to involve a couch in the living room, creating a significant amount of smoke damage throughout the unit, but the cause remained under investigation Monday. Damage was estimated at $50,000.
