Vernon Hills stops Grayslake North

Vernon Hills 9, Grayslake North 5: At Lakes, the top-seeded Cougars got 2 hits apiece from Brett Maras, Steve Nelson, Tyler Coppney and Anthony Mazza in the Class 3A regional semifinal.

Pat Crowley earned the win.

Grayslake North got a 2-run homer from Nick Stanfel and 2 hits apiece from Kevin Staszczak and Brandon Fern.

Vernon Hills advances to Saturday’s 11 a.m. regional final against the winner of today’s game between No. 2 Grayslake Central and No. 3 Lakes.
