Megan Mattera belted her eighth homer and went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, Lake Zurich’s softball team host Hersey 6-2 in the teams’ Class 4A regional opener Tuesday.

Mattera also earned the win, pitching a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts.

Third-seeded Lake Zurich (21-7) plays in the regional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday against the winner of today’s game between No. 6 Stevenson and No. 11 Carmel at Hersey.

Fremd 11, Libertyville 1: At Mundelein, the top-seeded Vikings ended the season of the 17th-seeded Wildcats.

Fremd will play the winner of today’s game between No. 8 Buffalo Grove and No. 10 Mundelein in Saturday’s 10 a.m. regional final.

Grayslake North 13, North Chicago 0: The Knights, the top seed in their own regional, advanced to Saturday’s 11 a.m. regional final.

Grayslake North will play the winner of today’s game between No. 2 Wauconda and No. 3 Grayslake Central.

Vernon Hills 20, Senn 0: At Vernon Hills, the Cougars cruised in their Class 3A regional opener.
