Batavia crash victim still in hospital

A Batavia High School senior remains in intensive care at Delnor Hospital, more than a week after the crash in which she was injured.

According to a Facebook page dedicated to informing people about her condition, Sarah Ginter has been weaned off a ventilator and is responding to commands to open her eyes and to swallow. The page is run by relatives.

She suffered brain injury, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and lacerated spleen.

Ginter was a passenger in a car driven by Lynlee Gilbert, also of Batavia. It hit a tree on Green Road near Elburn May 16. Gilbert was pronounced dead that evening at Delnor.

Kane County Sheriff’s deputies have not tried to interview Ginter about the crash, due to her injuries. The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team continues to study the crash, and results of toxicology tests of the driver are pending.
