Streamwood woman killed in Chicago crash
A Streamwood woman has been identified as one of two people killed in a Chicago crash early Sunday morning on the city’s Northwest Side.
Police said 57-year-old Teresa Cygan of Streamwood was involved in a two-vehicle accident on the at around 5 a.m. Sunday that killed her and a 57-year-old Elmwood Park man, Franciszek Opiela.
The two were on a cleaning crew that had been working in downtown Chicago and were commuting back home when the accident occurred, officials said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled both deaths as homicides as a result of a “pursued motor vehicle striking automobile.”
Chicago police said one of the vehicles was traveling north on Kostner Avenue when it was struck driving through an intersection by a vehicle traveling west on Diversey Avenue.
Police said one of the vehicles struck a building, but they did not have information on which vehicle Cygan and Opiela were driving in. A police spokeswoman refused to provide further details about the crash.
Police said the case remained under investigation Monday night and no charges had been filed.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Rich Rosado said four others were injured and taken to area hospitals.
