Tee off June 7 to support Cancer Care Services at Advocate Condell Medical Center

Tee times are still available for a golf outing that will benefit Cancer Care Services at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

The 30th annual Advocate Condell Medical Center Penny Schachner Memorial Golf Open will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at Pine Meadow Golf Club in Mundelein.

Golf tickets are $325 per person and include a continental breakfast for morning golfers and a grilled lunch for afternoon golfers. All are invited to enjoy cocktails and a pig roast dinner, followed by awards. Tickets for the dinner only are $50 per person.

Cancer Care Services at Advocate Condell Medical Center offer patients a compassionate and multidisciplinary approach to diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Recognizing the challenges many cancer patients experience during a difficult time, the hospital seeks philanthropic support to expand its holistic approach to care. By providing a range of education and support services, the hospital can better meet the varied needs of cancer patients and their families. Proceeds from the 2011 Golf Open will help to fund:

• Nurse Navigator Program:

Nurse navigators help patients access and understand their medical care and other services by following them through their course of treatment. They provide timely information, guidance and reassurance. These certified professionals assist patients with everything from helping them understand insurance coverage and charity care, finding transportation to and from their appointments, to providing support for patients' emotional and mental well-being.

• Community Education and Outreach:

Detecting cancer early offers the greatest possibility of successful treatment. With the help of philanthropy, our team of experts visits schools, churches and community centers to educate our neighbors about the importance of cancer screenings. They provide trips on healthy lifestyles and share important information about diagnostic and treatment options.

• Spiritual and Social Services:

Cancer patients often need services that go beyond the direct clinical care they receive. With your gifts to the 2011 Golf Open, Advocate Condell will enhance its support groups and survivorship programs. One initiative, the “Look Good, Feel Better” program co-sponsored with the American Cancer Society, teaches beauty techniques to help women with cancer manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.

“Our goal is to help patients make the best decisions using evidence-based medicine, clinical circumstances and personal values. Every patient is unique and needs personalized attention and plans of care. Being at Advocate Condell Medical Center provides me the privilege of working with excellent surgeons, radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and primary care physicians. We collaborate together as a team to provide the best possible outcomes to patients diagnosed with cancer,” said Dr. Dean G. Tsarwhas, an oncologist affiliated with Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Advocate Condell Medical Center offers advanced diagnostic and treatment options for patients with cancer, including Radiation Oncology and Outpatient Infusion centers, as well as a full range of classes and support groups for patients and their families and caregivers.
