Softball / Lake County roundup
Antioch’s softball team picked up a quality win Saturday heading into the state tournament this week.
Coming off a tough loss to Lake Zurich in the North Suburban Conference championship game Thursday, the Sequoits faced an unbeaten Richards team that was highly ranked in Class 4A and pulled out a 3-1 win in eight innings at Stone City.
Katie Phillips’ 2-run single with one out in the top of the eighth was the difference for the Sequoits.
Richards took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but Antioch (24-8) pulled even in the sixth, when Olivia Duehr tripled and scored on Amber Mysliwiec’s base hit.
Richards stranded runners in the fourth and sixth but could not come up with the big hit, as Duehr held the Bulldogs to 3 singles.
Duehr struck out 12 and walked one.
Buffalo Grove 4, Stevenson 3: Megan Fu homered and earned the win for the Bison in the regular-season finale.
Stevenson (17-11-1) lost despite Emma Patrash’s 3-for-4 afternoon that included a triple and double. Lara Horwitz had 2 singles for the Patriots, while Alyssa Vechiola had run-scoring single and an RBI groundout.
Stevenson turned 2 double plays.
