Schaumburg boy hit by car, critical

A 14-year-old Schaumburg boy remains in critical condition Saturday after being struck by a car while crossing the road at the intersection of Higgins and Plum Grove roads in Schaumburg Friday night.

Police and paramedics received the call to the scene at 9:13 p.m., Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said. The entire intersection was closed for the initial investigation until 1:15 a.m.

No charges have been filed in the incident as the investigation continues.

However, Nebl said, “at this point it just looks like a very tragic accident.”

The Toyota Camry that struck the boy was driven by a 61-year-old Hoffman Estates man.

Paramedics took the boy to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he remains.

The investigation is still determining the circumstances of the crash and the boy’s direction of travel across the roadway, Nebl said.
