Lake Park School students rename Panther Park

Friday, May 13 was a lucky day for the students of Lake Park Elementary School. Not only did the students have a scheduled half day of school, but they also participated in an outdoor assembly for the unveiling of “Panther Park.”

The 2.7-acre park site adjacent to their school, formerly known as Lake Manor North Park, features a playground, baseball field and basketball court for the students to enjoy during recess and outside of school hours.

The students of Lake Park Elementary School in Addison submitted numerous entries for a Name-the-Park contest. The resulting name was to represent the students and their school. Several creative entries were received as a result of this joint venture between the school and the Addison Park District.

“With the proximity of the park and playground to the school it was fitting for the students to be actively involved in renaming the park,” stated Mark McKinnon, executive director of the Addison Park District. “We are proud to recognize first-grade student Dylan Cummens and fifth-grade student Celeste Rivera for collaborating on the winning name for the park. Panther Park indicates great school-spirit as panthers are the school's mascot.”
