Softball / Lake County roundup

Thirteen was not an unlucky number for Lakes’ softball team Wednesday.

The Eagles edged Zion-Benton 8-7 for their 13th win in a row, as Jamie Dykstra delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.

Winning pitcher Shannon Cooley gave up 10 hits but buckled down after some early defensive miscues.

“Cooley is really starting to come on strong,” Lakes coach Bill Hamill said. “We ran through all three pitchers for Zion and none of them had an answer.”

Lakes (19-8-2) got triples from Jasmine Rivera and Dykstra and doubles from Cooley and Meghan Milewski. Dykstra, Rivera and Sara Braden each had a pair of hits.

The Eagles next play Saturday when they travel to Marengo for a doubleheader.

Stevenson 20, Round Lake 2: Ashley Niedermayer (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Morgan Manka each tripled for the visiting Patriots in the North Suburban crossover.

Freshman Lexi Yonkovic, who was called up last Saturday and scored the winning run in Stevenson’s last at-bat win against Warren on Tuesday, got her first varsity hit. Heather Cohen was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI for the winners.

Kat Trotter pitched a five-inning complete game for Stevenson (16-10-1), striking out seven, walking one and allowing 3 hits. One of the 2 runs she allowed was unearned.

Antioch 5, Carmel 0: Amber Mysliwiec (2-for-2, 2 RBI), Olivia Duehr (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Kaylene Ressler (RBI) led the way for the Sequoits, who play at Lake Zurich today in the North Suburban Conference championship game.

Duehr was perfect through 6 innings with 13 strikeouts.

Sally Snarski got Carmel’s first hit — a one-out single in the seventh off Sam Kozenski. Skyler Zak also had a single for the Corsairs.

Antioch improved to 23-7.

Libertyville 15, North Chicago 0: Dana Kym was 3-for-3 and scored 3 runs in the North Suburban crossover.

Kym also earned the win, striking out 10.

CL South 6, Grayslake Central 1: Cassidy Obis hit a fifth-inning solo homer for the Rams in the Fox Valley Conference game.

Claire Brennan was 2-for-3 for Grayslake Central.
