May 20: Relay for Life Mt. Prospect/Prospect Heights

Celebrate! Remember! Fight Back!

The 2011 Relay For Life of Mt. Prospect/Prospect Heights will take place Friday, May 20, and Saturday, May 21, at Prospect High School in Mount Prospect.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. It involves teams of community members and students walking laps around the Prospect High School track as they honor cancer survivors and those who have lost their battle.

The event begins at 6 p.m. Friday night and ends at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Throughout the evening and early morning there is entertainment, activities, a raffle, and several ceremonies. Opening ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. Friday. At 6:30 p.m. cancer survivors will take to the track for the survivor laps led by the Prospect High School Drum Line. At 7 p.m. Jazzercise will warm up the crowd, while at 8 p.m. the Wize Guys will take the stage, performing a musical history of rock and roll.

The Luminaria Ceremonty will be held at 9 p.m. to honor those who have lost their battle with cancer. The Fight Back ceremony will be held at 10 p.m. Between 9:30 and 11 p.m., Prospect groups One Stop, Xentricity, and Orchesis will perform. The midnight movie will be shown at 12 a.m. followed by theme laps and games and activites throughout the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Closing ceremonies will begin at 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
