Police: Naked man entered home

A Mount Prospect homeowner got a surprise this week after encountering an unknown naked man in his home twice in two days.

The resident called police about 11 a.m. Wednesday to report the man in the house, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Bill Cotter said. Police responded, but by then the man had left, Cotter said.

Previous contact with the defendant, John J. Cagney, 40, of Mount Prospect, led police to his residence, Cotter said. Arriving at the defendant's Prospect Avenue home, police heard the sound of a woman screaming and saw the front door was open. Entering the home, they found drug paraphernalia and a substance thought to be cocaine on a table, Cotter said. They did not find Cagney and the screaming turned out to be from a pornographic videotape, Cotter said.

About 1:30 a.m. Thursday, the original Mount Prospect resident called again to report a naked man in his home, Cotter said. Cagney was taken into custody at that time and charged with possession of a controlled substance, a class 4 felony punishable by one to three years in prison. Probation is also an option. Cagney was also charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia, Cotter said.

Authorities say they are unaware of any relationship between the defendant and the complaining witness.

A Cook County judge set bail at $10,000 for Cagney, whose criminal background includes conditional discharge for resisting a police officer in 1992, Cotter said.
