Crystal Lake teen falls into Wisconsin canyon

A Crystal Lake South High School student fell about 30 feet into a canyon early Sunday morning at a resort in Wisconsin, and police suspect alcohol was a factor.

A police report from the Lake Delton Police Department said the 17-year-old from Crystal Lake was attempting to cross the canyon on a fallen log at the Wilderness Resort when he lost his footing. Police said the spot he was attempting to cross was about eight to 10 feet wide.

Police and emergency services responded to the call about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and found the teen lying unconscious. Paramedics treated him at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to a medical helicopter, which then transported him to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

No condition information was available Thursday.

Jeff Puma, spokesman for Crystal Lake High School District 155, said the teen is a student at Crystal Lake South High School, but could not identify the student. Police declined to name him.

The school held its prom at the Renaissance Hotel in Schaumburg on Friday, May 7.
