U-46 school news for week of May 16

On Monday, the U-46 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in Room 140 at the Educational Services Center located at 355 E. Chicago Street in Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meeting. Bartlett High School

On Wednesday, BHS orchestra students will present their final concert of the year at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Elgin High School

On Thursday, EHS band students will present their final concert of the year at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

Larkin High School

On Wednesday, the LHS Jazz Band will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium.

South Elgin High School

On Thursday, SEHS choral groups will present their final concert and senior recognition at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

On Saturday, the 4th annual Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the school. The show is sponsored by the SEHS Auto Club. All types of cars will be featured. Fourteen trophies will be presented, along with a stereo competition. Food and T-shirts will be available for purchase. For further information, please call Steve Schertz at 847-289-3760, x3421.

Streamwood High School

On Tuesday, the annual Fashion Show presented by students in the Fashion construction classes, will be held at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Please contact Nancy Gaa at 630-213-5500, x8629 for further information.

On Thursday, the final Choral Concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family. Senior citizens 62 and over within U-46 boundaries may attend for free with proof of age.

On Friday, the Senior Recognition Assembly will be held at 9 a.m. in the main gym.

On Saturday, a car show will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the school parking lot. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Trophies will be awarded in seven categories. Enter your vehicle by contacting Mike Stark at 630-213-5500, x8635.

Abbott Middle School

On Tuesday, choral groups from Abbott will present their final Choral Concert of the year at 7 p.m. at the school.

On Thursday, 5th and 6th grade elementary feeder school students from Abbott and Kimball middle schools will perform together for an Orchestra Concert to be presented at 7 p.m. at the Kimball Middle School gym. Participating schools are: Century Oaks, Creekside, Harriet Gifford, Highland, Hillcrest, Lowrie, Otter Creek, Sheridan and Washington.

Canton Middle School

On Tuesday, choral groups from Canton will present their final Choral Concert of the year at 7 p.m. at the school.

Eastview Middle School

On Thursday, the final Orchestra Concert of the year will be performed in the Bartlett High School auditorium at 7 p.m.

Ellis Middle School

On Tuesday, the Ellis band will combine with band students from the feeder elementary schools including Channing, Hilltop, Huff and Lords Park, to present a concert at 7 p.m. at Ellis.

On Wednesday, the Ellis orchestra will combine with orchestra students from the elementary feeder schools including Channing, Hilltop, Huff and Lords Park, to present a concert at 7 p.m. at Ellis.

Kenyon Woods Middle School

On Thursday, choral students will present their final concert of the year at the school at 7 p.m.

Larsen Middle School

On Thursday, the Cadet Band made up of elementary feeder students from Coleman, Lincoln, McKinley, Sheridan, and Timber Trails will join with Larsen band students to present a concert at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

Tefft Middle School

On Tuesday, the Spring Band Concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Tefft auditorium. This concert will feature band students from the following feeder schools: Heritage, Horizon, Laurel Hill, Ontarioville, Parkwood and Sunnydale, along with the Tefft band. Admission is $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family. Senior citizens 62 and over within U-46 boundaries may attend for free with proof of age.

On Friday, the End of the Year Dance for 8th grade students will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the school.

Bartlett Elementary

On Thursday, a retirement reception will be held from 2:30-5:30 p.m. in the gym for 3 teachers retiring after many years of service. They are: Donna Barber, Amelia Kamaris, and Sandy King. Nature Ridge Elementary

On Wednesday, a Spring Sing will be performed by students in grades 1-3 at South Elgin High School at 7 p.m.

Parkwood Elementary

On Friday, the first Spring Festival will be held from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Come and enjoy a night of fun with student performances, great food, music and much more!

Sheridan Elementary

On Saturday, a community Garage Sale will be held in the playground/patio area from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Timber Trails Elementary

During the entire week, the school is celebrating Wellness Week. The 595 students will be exposed to a variety of fitness and health topics. Students will actively participate in numerous programs and will hear professionals speak on nutrition and exercise.

The goal is to reinforce the importance of nutrition and exercise to create a healthy lifestyle. Through the use of speakers, demonstrations and activities, students will be given the tools to promote healthy living. In addition to on-site activities, students will be encouraged to visit local establishments where families can enjoy a healthy dinner and physical exercise.

Each day during the morning announcements, students will be given a healthy tip of the day before participating in morning stretching and exercises.

The following is the daily schedule for the week:

Monday: AM - Nutrition Assembly PM – Pump It Up, Crystal Lake, 5:45-8 PM

Tuesday: Wellness Walk – Teachers & students walk for 20 minutes.

Wednesday: AM - Mini-clinics Athletes, coaches and instructors donate time to discuss, demonstrate and involve students with activity/sport of choice.

– Visit Jimmy John's Sandwich Shop with your family for a healthy dinner. Jimmy John's will donate a portion of $ back to Timber Trails.

Thursday: AM – Circuit – 18 stations each having an exercise performed at minute intervals.

Friday: PM – Fitness Assembly

Washington Elementary

On Thursday, sixth grade students will travel to Medieval Times for the day.

On Friday, the school is having an Ice Cream Social from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Willard Elementary

On Friday, the PTO will sponsor a Fun Fair from 5-8 p.m. on the playground. Come join in for pizza, popcorn, cotton candy, music, games and a raffle.
