Ogden 6 hosts premiere of 'One Lucky Elephant' documentary

“One Lucky Elephant,” a character-driven documentary, opens nationally on June 9, and has been selected by Oprah Winfrey to air on her network, OWN, later this year. The film considers life after the circus for performing elephants.

Widely reviewed and sold-out at film festivals, there will be an exclusive screening of “One Lucky Elephant” for one show only at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 22 at the Ogden 6 Theatre, 1227 E. Ogden Ave. in Naperville.

Admission is $5 per person, with tickets available at the box office and online.

This local screening of “One Lucky Elephant” is being made possible through the efforts of writer/producer/cinematographer Cristina Colissimo and area residents Evelyn Gluting and Mary Jane Stein; two local supporters of the charity who care deeply about the natural world.

The film captures the story of Flora, an orphaned baby African elephant who was adopted by circus producer David Balding. He raised Flora as part of his family and featured her as of the star of his circus show. As she grew into adulthood, David realized that she was not happy performing and had to face the difficult truth that the circus was no place for Flora. She needed to be around other elephants. The road of Flora's retirement is a difficult and emotional journey spanning a ten-year time period. “One Lucky Elephant” explores the consequences of keeping wild animals in captivity, while never losing sign of the delicate story at its heart.

Admission to “One Lucky Elephant” at the Ogden 6 on May 22 is $5 per person, which supports Ahali Elephants. There will also be a charity silent auction prior to the show.
