Roselle Village Board passes water, sewer rate increases

The Roselle Village Board passed a trio of measures at its May 9, 2011, meeting, raising the established water and sewer rates by a combined 65 cents per 1,000 gallons. The rates were increased to compensate for a recent water price hike imposed on the Village by the DuPage Water Commission, to offset previously unbudgeted operational expenses, and to address reserve fund balances that had fallen well below already established Village fiscal policies. These increases are expected to impact an average household in Roselle by $3.90 a month.

Of the 65-cent increase that was passed, the 15 cents per 1,000 gallons increase to the water rate reflects the new rate charged to the Village by the DuPage Water Commission to purchase water and 20 cents per 1,000 gallons to the sewer rate covers a previously unbudgeted $75,000 annual expenditure for the operation of the Village's wastewater treatment plants.

An additional 30 cents per 1,000 gallons to the sewer rate will address reserves in the Village's Water and Sewer Operating Fund. Fiscal policies call for two months of reserves in the fund, and even with this increase, budget projections for the fund would still be under the one-month mark.

These rate increases apply to May water usage and will be assessed in residents' June bills. Residents with billing questions can call (630) 980-2000.
