Alexian Ball raises money for children’s hospital

More than 700 guests attended last weekend’s glittering ball, “By the Light of the Silvery Moon,” and raised money for Alexian Brothers Health Care system in the Northwest suburbs.

The Ball de Fleur is an annual event, made more special that this year was the 25th. Since 1986, the balls have raised more than $6 million to support health care programs. This year’s ball, at Navy Pier, raised funds for the new Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital in Hoffman Estates, breaking ground May 20, and the Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health in Arlington Heights.

The ball was held a little more than a week after Alexian Brothers announced its merger with the St. Louis-based Ascension family of hospitals.

The network’s current facilities are Alexian Brothers Medical Center and Alexian Rehabilitation Hospital in Elk Grove Village; St. Alexius Medical Center and Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Center in Hoffman Estates; and Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health in Arlington Heights.
