Cut institutions, not local programs

Being the father of two children with developmental disabilities who are now adults has been a challenge for me and for all parents who have children with mental or physical challenges. My children now are contributing members of the community with jobs at local Jewel food stores.

This is due to hard work from parents, agencies like Seguin Services in Cicero and companies like Jewel food stores working together. Seguin Services and other agencies are taking the steps to cut costs. They provide care to individuals with disabilities at less than half the cost for similar services at large state of Illinois-run institutions. We need our senators and representatives to recognize this and preserve funding for community based services for society's most vulnerable population.

The General Assembly needs to cut cost within government such as the cost of large state-owned and operated institutions. These children and adults who pay taxes need to be given the respect and support we all deserve from our senators and representatives. This letter is from a taxpayer and loving father.
