A Daniel Wright Junior High School student has received an award in a national reading and writing program.

Conrad Oberhaus, a fifth-grader at the Lincolnshire school, was selected as a National Honor award winner in the Letters About Literature essay-writing program.

He was one of 12 students nationwide to win this award, chosen from more than 69,000 entries.

Conrad will receive a Target gift card, a U.S. Savings Bond from the Illinois Center for the Book and a plaque at a May 11 awards ceremony. The ceremony will be held at the Springfield office of Secretary of State Jesse White.

Conrad also secured the right to nominate a community or school library in his area to receive a $1,000 Letters About Literature Reading Promotion Grant from Target. He recommended his school’s library.

Additionally, Wright Junior High School’s library will receive a $100 check from the Illinois Center for the Book.

District 103 and Daniel Wright Junior High School expressed appreciation for Conrad’s generosity and for honoring the school library in this way.

To reach the national contest, Conrad’s essay first was selected the Illinois Level I winner, from 2,238 entries.
