County seeks input on burning restrictions near Stevenson High School
The Lake County Board will host a public meeting Monday night to discuss proposed restrictions on burning landscape waste near Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire.
The meeting takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the school, 1 Stevenson Drive.
The county board is considering a proposal that would allow burning of landscape waste only during the months of April, May, October and November, and would limit the burn times to late in the day after most school functions have ended.
The measure would only affect residents in unincorporated Lake County. The villages of Lincolnshire, Buffalo Grove and Vernon Hills already have burning bans in place. Students and adults attending school or school functions have lodged numerous complaints about smoke from the burning of landscape waste near Stevenson, according to the county. The lingering smoke also has caused visibility problems for traffic on campus and nearby township roads, county officials said.
The county board’s Planning, Building and Zoning Committee and Health and Community Services Committee have directed staff to obtain comments from residents in the affected area.
Anyone who wishes to comment on the proposal can send remarks either by email, communications@lakecountyil.gov, or to Lake County Administrator’s Office, 18 N. County St., 9th Floor, Waukegan, IL 60085, Attention: Phil Rovang. Comments must be sent by May 20.
