Fremont principal receives honors

Fremont Middle School Principal Pamela Motsenbocker was honored this month with the innovative education award from the Illinois Principals Association Lake Region and Horace Mann.

Motsenbocker received the 2010-11 honor for her school's academic excellence designation from the state board of education, leadership of a schoolwide intervention program assisting students who are below grade level, and her strong belief and support of public education, Fremont Elementary District 79 said in a news release.

This year, Fremont Middle School received the Illinois State Board of Education's Academic Excellence award for sustaining very high academic performance over at least a three-year period. Fremont was one of 90 middle schools that received the distinction for 2010. There are more than 600 middle schools in Illinois.

For the past several years, Motsenbocker has engaged her staff in assisting students in academic areas to ensure they are at grade level upon graduation.

High school data shows Fremont Middle School students have consistently been placed into challenging classes at the high school they attend after graduation.

“The Innovative Education Award speaks to the hard work and dedication that comes out of the Fremont Middle School,” District 79 Superintendent Jill Gildea said.

Motsenbocker said it is an honor to be nominated for the award.

“I am thrilled to have been recognized by the members of the Illinois Principals Association. I am lucky to work with a wonderful team of teachers, students and parents. Everyone has worked very hard to stay focused on student academic achievement,” she said.

Winners will be recognized at the IPA Lake Region dinner and golf outing June 22 at the Antioch Country Club.

Fremont Middle School serves 784 students in Mundelein, Wauconda, Hawthorn Woods, Grayslake, Ivanhoe, Round Lake, Round Lake Park, Long Grove and Libertyville.
