Maine Twp. youth have ‘sticker shock’
On April 13, 2011, the Maine Community Youth Assistance Foundation Coalition conducted Project Sticker Shock in Maine Township.
I am happy to report that Sticker Shock was a big success! We had 80 teens and 24 adults from Park Ridge, Des Plaines and Niles who visited 47 local retail businesses to place warning stickers on packaged alcohol. The stickers alert adults purchasing alcohol that it is illegal to provide alcohol to anyone under 21 years old.
After participating in the Sticker Shock activity, a celebration was held to thank the volunteers and recognize their contribution to the success of Sticker Shock. The police chiefs from Park Ridge, Niles and Des Plaines, as well as the acting Des Plaines City Manager and Park Ridge City Clerk were on hand to thank the volunteers for their participation and present them with a certificate of appreciation.
The following local businesses donated food or gift items for our celebration which contributed to the success of this event:
Houlihan’s Restaurant, Park Ridge; Giuseppe’s La Cantina, Des Plaines; Taqueria Los Comales, Niles; Subway, South Prospect Avenue, Park Ridge; Joe Caputo’s & Sons Market, Des Plaines; Panera Bread, Park Ridge; Arandas Taqueria, Des Plaines; J.D. Kadds, Park Ridge; Allegretti’s Pasta & Pizza, Des Plaines; Starbuck’s Coffee, South Prospect Avenue, Park Ridge; Noodles & Co., Park Ridge.
Please support these businesses and thank them for their contribution and for supporting the MCYAF Coalition in its efforts to reduce alcohol use by Maine Township youth.
