St. Mary School holds 'A Little Time for Tea'

On April 27, the fourth- to sixth-grade girls of St. Mary School in Buffalo Grove joined their moms and shared "A Little Time Together for Tea".

The girls and their moms experienced a special “girls only” social event. “A little time together” is a traditional event at Saint Mary School designed to encourage comfort while discussing and understanding the personal changes young girls experience during their pre-teen years.

Guest speaker, Pat Garrity, L.C.S.W., spoke and facilitated the evening's activities. Mrs. Garrity offered practical ideas in a humorous, light-hearted manner, resulting in laughter as well as learning.

The program gives the girls an opportunity to learn to support each other. They experience “talks” with their moms in a new light while enjoying activities among their friends. Mothers learned to network, and the girls found other girls and women they can count on who share similar feelings and experiences. Mrs. Garrity, a licensed clinical social worker has been a consultant in family life education since 1978.

The participants enjoyed croissant sandwiches, tea-cup cookies and chose from eight varieties of tea. The relaxing atmosphere created and showcased the bright side of adolescence and replaced any hesitancy or embarrassment girls may be experiencing. The girls and their mothers left with a new sense of confidence and enthusiasm about this new stage in their lives.
