No-wake on Fox, Chain

A no-wake restriction has been imposed on the Chain O’ Lakes and Fox River north from the Algonquin Dam, because of high water brought on by long periods of heavy rain in Illinois and Wisconsin, the Fox Waterway Agency in Fox Lake announced Wednesday. Under law, any boat traveling at speeds greater than 5 mph and emanating a wake behind the vessel could be ticketed for violating no-wake restrictions. Violations of no-wake or other boating restrictions during a flood or overflow event are now subject to a fine of not less than $300 or more than $500, monetary recovery of all damages and possible incarceration. Officials said weather patterns across the area have created rising water levels on the Fox Waterway system. Boaters are warned of floating debris and high water obstructions, and fast moving water in certain areas.
