Hersey mom says thanks for teachers

I believe that education is the answer to most if not all of our social ills. Therefore, I think that it would be more helpful to talk about the favorable aspects of our local teachers as opposed to some of the teacher bashing which seems to give some people a real kick.

One of the things that irritates me is that people continue to compare the salaries of teachers to jobs that require less education. I know that almost all of my daughter’s teachers at John Hersey High School have at least a master’s degree and many hours beyond that, Also, they often take classes over the summer. I know that many if not all teachers there spend an incredible amount of time at school. They are there before school, after school and even on their lunch hour in order to help students who need a little more of their time.

If these talented educators chose to go into private business, they could make triple what their salaries are now. However, I believe that their rewards are not monetary. Their rewards come from simply being able to do what they love. Teach, and hope that their students will develop a lifetime love of learning.

My daughter is ending her four-year journey at JHHS, and I believe that she has had a first-class education at her high school.

So kudos to all those teachers who go in each and every day motivated to reach out to their students. We know that YOU believe that you have the best job in the world.
