GreenTree Animal Hospital expands services, moves to new clinic
GreenTree Animal Hospital, which has served Lake County pet owners since 1996, has moved to a new, state-of-the-art facility, located at 800 East Park Avenue (Route 176), Libertyville.
The 4,000 square foot building was built specifically for GreenTree's expanding veterinary practice. It features five exam rooms, a cutting-edge lab, sterile operating suite, and pet pharmacy, as well as separate cat and dog recovery areas and an isolation ward. The waiting room is large and divided, so furry patients need not sit nose-to-nose (unless of course, they want to).
GreenTree's five veterinarians provide general animal care and surgery, treating cats, dogs, and exotic pets like rabbits and reptiles. Some of their specialties include advanced dental care, senior pet care, and most recently, internal medicine.
“Pets are living longer, which is a very good thing,” says GreenTree owner Dr. Laura Brown. “But it also means they're more likely to need more specialized care down the road.”
Studies show that pet owners will seek specialty care more quickly if it's delivered in a familiar setting. So GreenTree brought in Dr. Julie Allen, a board certified internist, and invested in an ultrasound machine and other advanced lab equipment. As a result, GreenTree is now better able to treat pets with diseases like cancer, diabetes, kidney failure and liver disease in-house.
GreenTree recently received renewal of its AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) Accreditation, a rigorous evaluation that consists of 900 veterinary standards. Of the roughly 31,000 animal hospitals in the U.S. and Canada, only 3,200 — just over 10% — are AAHA-accredited.
In addition, GreenTree offers its clients online access through an interactive Pet Portal found on www.greentreevets.com. There, clients can view their pets' vaccination and health history, order medications and prescription food, ask questions, and even request appointments.
GreenTree is active in the community and partners with a number of local animal rescue groups.
It also provides discounted microchipping and hosts an “Ask the Vet” answer booth at Libertyville's annual Dog Days of Summer fest, to be held this year in July. And Dr. Brown volunteers at local schools' “Career Days,” bringing her Golden Retriever, Simon, for demonstration purposes.
The staff's love of animals goes well beyond the clinic's walls. Between the five veterinarians, 11 technicians, six receptionists, and two administrators, GreenTree's staff claims 80+ personal pets (including birds and fish), plus two office kitty mascots, Bella and Nala.
GreenTree will be holding an open house for the public later in the season, once the property's landscaping has been completed. In the meantime, for more information, call 847-680-6543, visit, or feel free to drop by and say hello.
