No barrier will stop Asian carp

State and federal politicians, federal and state agencies, and various interest groups including environmental organizations that should know better are calling for a permanent physical barrier to keep Asian carp out of Lake Michigan. This is pure folly. No physical barrier can stop fish when fish-eating birds are present.

Gulls, ducks, certain hawks, pelicans, herons and others will drop carp while flying over the lake. Also, carp eggs will stick to the feet of wading birds like heron, cranes, ducks, plover and gulls and be deposited in the lake when the bird lands.

Stop wasting money on barriers and learn instead about the natural history of freshwater fishes!
