Wauconda sewer, water work

Wauconda intends to sell general obligation bonds not to exceed $2 million to fund sewer and water improvements to upgrade service. Village engineer Robert Devery detailed the projects at Tuesday’s board meeting and explained these projects are an extension of the capital improvement program funded through a bond issue in 2007. The work includes upgrading a lift station along west side of Bangs Lake, north of Murphy Street, with more modern equipment and standby emergency power. Devery said the village also will reroute a sewer line that runs along the east side of Bangs Lake to reduce a bottleneck and alleviate sewage from seeping into the lake. The village also will replace a water main along Bonner Road between Main Street and Route 12 that has had several breaks this year. The last project will replace older hydrants. Village attorney Rudolph Magna said no property tax funds will be collected to pay back the debt, but alternate revenue sources will be used.
