Libertyville handles Waukegan

Libertyville’s boys volleyball team climbed above the .500 mark Tuesday night.

Rob St. Claire and Keegan McAuliffe led a balanced attack with 5 kills each, and Teddy Kopacz set 35 of 35 with 24 assists, as the Wildcats defeated Waukegan 25-8, 25-7.

Matt Tassler and Stefan Vidovich added 4 kills apiece for Libertyville (7-6), while Eric Handrich and Erich Banduch each had three. Vidovich also had a pair of solo blocks, and Scott Cooper led Libertyville with 9 digs.

Carmel d. St. Patrick: Frankie Cohen piled up 11 kills, 10 digs and 2 solo blocks, as the Corsairs captured their East Suburban Catholic Conference opener 25-18, 26-24 in Chicago.

Anthony Rengers and Will Collazo added 6 and 4 kills, respectively, for Carmel (11-9). Collazo also had 4 solo and 2 assisted blocks. Michael Fitzgibbons chipped in 3 solo blocks. Alex Dunlap had a good night for Carmel, too, dishing out 26 assists and serving 10 of 12 with an ace.

Carmel received 11 digs from Collin Long, while both Damyan Kolomayers (1 ace) and Graham Misak served 8 of 8.

“St. Pats played tough all the way to the end,” Carmel coach Kevin Nylen said. “We had our most complete match all season long. Great energy from the boys.

“Dunlap did a very nice job running the offense, and Cohen carried us,” Nylen added. “Long and Cohen did a nice job passing, and Collazo had a big night blocking.”

New Trier d. Lake Forest: The Scouts fell 25-22, 25-18, despite 5 kills apiece from Kris Hawkins and Kyle Moore.

Lake Forest (6-8) also received 4 kills from Henry Lamp and 10 assists from Andrew Carr.
