I-355 crash caused by stalled car remains under investigation

Police continue to investigate a two-vehicle crash Saturday that closed the North-South Tollway's southbound lanes for nearly five hours Saturday at Route 20 in Addison.

No citations have been issued and the identities of three people rushed to the hospital after the collision were not being released, police said Sunday.

Investigators believe that a 2009 Audi coupe driven by a 28-year-old Bloomingdale woman ran out of gas about 12:15 p.m. Saturday in the middle lane on I-355, north of Army Trail Road.

The stalled car was then rear-ended by a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 24-year-old man from Addison, said Illinois State Police trooper and public information officer Maria Navarro. The man's daughter, a juvenile, was a passenger in the car.

“The second vehicle didn't have anywhere to go and slammed into (the other vehicle),” Navarro said.

All three victims were rushed to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, but police were not discussing their conditions.

Police said the toll road reopened at 4:58 p.m. Saturday after investigators finished clearing the scene and taking measurements.
