Man killed by Metra train in Wood Dale

A 44-year-old man was struck and killed by a Metra train on Saturday in Wood Dale.

The man was hit about 12:35 p.m. by a Chicago-bound Milwaukee District West Line train just east of Ash Street, between the Wood Dale and Bensenville stations, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said. No injuries were reported on the train.

The name of the man was being withheld pending notification of relatives, Miller said.

Wood Dale police confirmed the accident took place in Wood Dale but directed all other questions to Metra.

The man was trespassing, Miller said. “He was crossing the tracks right in front of the train.”

The DuPage County coroner’s office responded to the scene and was investigating the cause of death, he said.

Chicago-bound train 2714 was delayed almost two hours and arrived downtown Chicago about 3:20 p.m., he said. Outbound train 2709 was delayed by 53 minutes.
