State needs to get drivers’ attention

In the April 10 issue, Marni Pyke wrote an article on speed limits in construction zones that I generally agree with. However, in this state, the speed limit applies 24/7/365, which makes no sense.

While I-88 was under construction I traveled it many times. I would set my cruise control at 50 mph, get in the right lane and watch the cars fly past me, On a very rare occasion, I might pass a car myself.

During nighttime hours and winter months when construction was halted, the 45 mph speed limit stills applies. No wonder drivers pay no attention to the 45 mph speed limit when construction workers are present.

The speed limit should be observed but in most other states a construction zone speed limit applies when workers are present, not when no work is going on. If this state would get its act together, and then enforce the law, perhaps drivers would pay more attention to the law.
