Recapping Hawks-Canucks games this season

Although the Blackhawks have defeated the Vancouver Canucks in their last two playoff series, the teams met four times this season with markedly diverse results. Here’s a recap on those four games:

Oct. 20 at Chicago Blackhawks 2, Canucks 1 (SO)

Recap: In a rematch of last year’s Western Conference semifinals, goalies Marty Turco and Roberto Luongo put on a show in a game that ended 1-1 in regulation. Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Patrick Kane scored for the Hawks in the shootout.

Quote: “It felt pretty good most of the night,” Turco said. “Got to work on the shootout, I guess. You kind of feel like you get bailed out there by the boys scoring 3. That’s a great sight to see, but more than anything it was just a solid game all the way around against a hungry, aggressive team that had a lot to play for tonight.”

Nov. 20 at Vancouver Blackhawks 7, Canucks 1

Recap: About the only drama in this blowout —– which featured a pair of goals by Fernando Pisani — came afterward when the Canucks complained about the Hawks’ approach down the stretch.

Quote: “We basically embarrassed ourselves in front of our fans, and they did everything they could to rub it in our face,” Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said. “(It’s) 6-0 and they throw their number one power-play unit when it’s 5-on-3. They have every right to do that. They did it. They were pushing it, and they did it.”

Dec. 3 at Chicago Canucks 3, Blackhawks 0

Recap: Roberto Luongo made 32 saves in recording his second shutout of the season and his 53rd overall to lead the Canucks past the Hawks. Tanner Glass, Christian Ehrhoff and Henrik Sedin scored for the Canucks, who got some revenge for the 7-1 drubbing by the Hawks in November..

Quote: “These are fun games to be a part of,” Luongo said. “We always get up for games against the Blackhawks, so it’s nice to get the win – especially after out last one.”

Feb. 4 at Vancouver Canucks 4, Blackhawks 3

Recap: Daniel Sedin scored with four minutes remaining to lift the Canucks to their fifth straight win in a wild one over the Blackhawks. Sedin also assisted on his brother Henrick’s power play goal to tie the game midway through the third period.

Quote: “It’s good for our confidence, I think, especially against this team,” Daniel said. “We’ve had some problems against them.”
