Jessica Shearer of Crystal Lake is raising money for clean water in Africa. She will be bike riding across the U.S., from San Diego to Virginia, from June to August. She is a first-year student at McHenry Community College.

Shearer is doing this ride with about 20 others from across the country.

Several years ago, she became aware of the unreliable supply of clean water in Africa and decided to support the work of the Blood: Water Mission, which supports digging and repairing wells in Marsabit in Kenya. This work provides clean well water within a few hundred feet, instead of unclean water from much further away.

Shearer is participating in the Ride:Well Bike Tour — South, organized by Venture Expeditions. After riding 60 to 100 miles each day, the riders will stay in churches for the night, where they will talk about the need for clean water in Africa.
