No go on Wood Dale intersection project
Wood Dale voters directed city officials Tuesday to abandon plans for long-awaited improvements at the intersection of Irving Park and Wood Dale roads.
With all 16 precincts reporting, voters rejected an advisory referendum request to keep the project on the city’s to-do list, 1,365 to 917, unofficial results show.
The decision comes after more than a decade of officials seeking about $20 million in grants for upgrades to the intersection, which once ranked high on the state’s list of dangerous crossroads.
The project drew recent skepticism from critics, who say the location featuring two railroad crossings is no longer notorious as it once was.
