Challengers don’t support SHS values
School board members should reflect the positive values and rights of our educational community, which include equality for all students, respect for teachers’ judgment and separation of church and state.
District 125 incumbents Moons, Lubin and Roberts and newcomer Weisberg honor these values and rights. Challengers Cardella, Brady and Powell do not support these values and rights.
Here are some concrete examples to illustrate:
On equality: Linda Cardella believes that SHS should ban dances sponsored by the Gay-Straight Student Alliance. “I believe that SHS crossed the line by hosting a public homosexual dance. SHS should not host any future event that celebrates, encourages or affirms homosexual behavior.”
On respect for teachers’ judgment: Both Cardellas believe that SHS English curriculum is offensive and all three candidates advocate for a parent oversight committee. Linda states: “My husband and I are trying to raise our children with traditional values ... We object to SHS implementing curriculum ... that is offensive and in direct opposition to our traditional values.”
On separation of church and state: Candidates Cardella, Brady and Powell stated on their website that they believe in “exposing students to both the strengths and weaknesses of current theories on biological evolution.” Note: This exact language is now the recognized legal subterfuge “code words” for advocating teaching creationism in our public schools.
District 125 incumbents Moons, Lubin and Roberts and newcomer Weisberg uphold the time-honored values and rights of this community: equality for all students, respecting teachers’ judgment, and separation of church and state. Vote for them to assure that our district continues to preserve these vital educational and constitutional principles.
