Too much ugliness in Dist. 125 race
Watching the events of this school board election, I am stunned at the accusations and untruths thrown at candidates running for the District 125 school board.
I don’t know who the authors of these vicious attacks are, but the example these individuals are setting for our children is extremely upsetting. I believe that when we feel we can improve a situation, we should stand up and serve.
I was taught not to complain, but to be involved in developing and implementing solutions that make our community a better place. We have incumbents and newcomers running for seats on the school board who are doing just that: seeking to make our community a better place by serving.
Throughout this election campaign, there have been and continue to be shocking, hateful e-mails and accusations circulating that seem to teach our children that they should only stand up and serve if they are willing to be slandered. They are being shown that if they want to make a difference by getting politically involved in this community, they must follow the status quo or they will be personally attacked.
This letter to the editor is not to encourage you to vote for one candidate over another. It is to encourage you to dismiss the petty and cruel comments that have been circulating about those willing to serve on our school board.
We need to learn for ourselves what each of the candidates truly stand for so we can elect the best possible board. This information is found at the candidates’ websites and at forums, not e-mail threads purporting to know the candidates’ hidden agendas.
We should show our children by example how to hold an election that is honest, respectful and full of integrity.
