SHS incumbents deserve thanks

Opponents are attacking the United4Stevenson School Board incumbents — Terry Moons, Bruce Lubin, and Merv Roberts — for being a “club.” This sniping ignores what it has taken to be part of this so-called “club.” Moons, Lubin and Roberts have:-

Ÿ Stepped forward to run for office, when no one else did;

Ÿ Transformed Stevenson from a good to a great, nationally-recognized school;

Ÿ Won more Golden Apple awards than any public high school in Illinois;

Ÿ Earned the Red Apple award for 18 straight years (based on criteria that attract relocating families, which benefits our property values);

Ÿ Spent countless hours at board meetings, school events, and parent meetings, while becoming experts in school finance and education;

Ÿ Shared their knowledge with thousands who travel from across the country to learn Stevenson’s “best practices”;

Ÿ Repeatedly abated tax levy increases while earning Standard & Poor’s AAA bond rating and the State Board of Education’s highest financial rating.

So is it a club? You bet! It’s a club where membership has been earned through dedication, volunteer service, passion for education, and visionary leadership.

Thanks to this “club,” our kids are among the country’s best educated, our property values are enhanced, and our community is enriched. First-time candidate Dave Weisberg would also be a tremendous addition to this team.

We owe the United4Stevenson team a vote of thanks — and a vote at the polls on April 5.
