Facts support Stevenson incumbents
Recently a second flyer from the Vote125for125 appeared in my mailbox. I noticed two things: this group apparently feels that by repeating the same inaccurate statements someone might think they are true, and the use of the phrase “The Club” should somehow justify keeping intelligent, compassionate, committed, and caring people from getting elected.
Perhaps I find “The Club” so objectionable because of my tenure on the Stevenson school board, technically a member of this club, or my involvement in the campaign to elect the United4Stevenson slate. I may also find it so distasteful because objectifying epithets have been used throughout history to dehumanize an adversary.
Each of the roughly 50,000 registered voters, a rather broad definition of an exclusive club, living within the District 125 community, have had the option to run for school board over the last eighteen years. Rather than run for election, the community chose to endorse its school board, for example the last referendum was approved with almost 70 percent of the vote.
One can easily infer the message within 18 years of uncontested elections to the Stevenson High School board is “we trust you.” I believe that when a group of individuals does not have a single issue upon which to run, they resort to partial truth and distortion. I believe that the opposition slate uses partial truth and distortion to hide their real agenda; to bring their own brand of “traditional family values” to a world-class institution.
Unlike the opposition slate, I do not ask you to accept my beliefs. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Become familiar with the positions of the United4Stevenson slate and those of its opposition. Ask questions, look for code words that shield untenable positions, and vote for Lubin, Moons, Roberts, and Weisberg to continue a tradition of excellence.
