Schaumburg voters should keep long view in mind
I totally understand the anger of my fellow residents of Schaumburg over the new village tax. We have lived in the village for 37 years and our household is none too thrilled paying this brand new tax either.
I would, however, urge residents to consider that our current leadership has taken a long view of the needs of the community. We can't simply vote them out without giving thought to one very salient point, which is, to me, are we looking for leaders who take a shortsighted view or leaders who see the broad scope of issues facing our community and act with the goal in mind of maintaining and enhancing the community?
Doing what is popular isn't always the best course of action. Our leaders have the obligation to be responsible for the community not just for today but for 10, 20, 30 years down the road. Do we want our community to continue to attract visitors to our hotels, shopping and fine dining establishments; do we want to feel safe and secure with a fine police and fire department?
These are some of the attributes of Schaumburg which attract businesses and families to our village.
No one likes to pay more taxes. Be careful not to throw out the baby with the bath water.
