ComEd employee dies from head injury
A 53-year-old ComEd employee died Tuesday after a piece of equipment fell and struck him on the head, a company spokeswoman confirmed.
The man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition Tuesday afternoon after either a utility pole or piece of ComEd equipment struck him at a Crystal Lake intersection around 1:40 p.m., officials said.
ComEd was replacing utility poles at the intersection of Crystal Lake Avenue and East Street in Crystal Lake when the accident occurred, said Crystal Lake Fire Department Lt. Kirk Kiermas said.
ComEd is continuing their investigation into the accident, but were not releasing the employee’s name Tuesday night.
Fire officials requested Flight for Life to transport the man, but crews decided to take him in an ambulance to Centegra Hospital in McHenry while attempting to stabilize him, according to the fire department.
“Everyone at the company extends its deepest sympathy to his family and friends,” said ComEd spokeswoman Arlana Johnson.
Fire officials did not have any personal information about the man.
