The real issues in Winfield’s election

Some would have you believe that Roosevelt Road and political signs are the issue in this election but they are not. Tax increases and irresponsible spending are the issues we should all be focused on.

Last year the majority of the residents voted no to the November road referendums. Candidates VadeBonCeour and Mortensen supported these tax increases and will do so again if re-elected. Tim Allen and Tony Reyes spoke out against these unnecessary taxes and want to represent you, the majority of Winfield taxpayers.

Allen and Reyes favor repairing the roads. They support modernizing our infrastructure. But they want a self-sufficient village government to fund these efforts, not the residents. They have a plan to do so, and it’s time we gave them the chance.

If previous candidates want to live up to their campaign promise of “bringing unity” to Winfield, now is the time. Both sides of this politically divided town need to be on the village board. In 2005 I ran for village president with the goal of bringing unity to Winfield. I was supported by Winfield United and endorsed by the Daily Herald.

I served 18 years on the village board and can honestly say with this election we could now take real steps toward that goal. A diverse board will move us forward and help end the current infighting and stagnation. A truly united Winfield will vote for Tim Allen and Tony Reyes for village trustees.
