Rush, Slaughter host home games Friday

Friday night football.

Has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Well, there will be plenty of Friday night football — of the indoor variety — to choose from on Friday as both the Chicago Rush and Chicago Slaughter are in action at home.

The Slaughter (2-1) will play host to the Kent (WA.) Predators (1-1) at Sears Centre Arena (7:35 p.m.) in Indoor Football League action, while just down I-90 it will be a battle of unbeatens as the San Jose Sabercats (2-0) take on the Rush (2-0) at Allstate Arena (7:30 p.m.) in an Arena Football League game.

In their last game, the Slaughter used a late rally to defeat the Reading Express 59-55 — a Ben Stankey TD pass to James Robinson providing the winning margin. For the game, Stankey was 24-for-36 for 317 yards and 6 TDs.

The Rush improved to 2-0 under first-year coach Bob McMillen with a 62-28 victory last week over the Mike Hohensee-led Philadelphia Soul in front of 10,582 fans in Rosemont.

“We know we have to get better each week and we’re doing just that,” McMillen said. “We still have a lot of work to do but we’re taking it one game at a time with the goal of getting better each game.”

Rush quarterback Russ Michna opened the 2011 season earning Offensive Player of the Game honors for his 7-TD performance on the road against the Milwaukee Mustangs, and he turned around four days later to win the same honors with his performance last week against the Soul.
