Wauconda village manager retiring

After nearly 29 years working for the village of Wauconda, Village Manager Daniel Quick has decided to retire, Mayor Mark Knigge announced Thursday.

Quick, who started at the Wauconda Police Department in 1982, has held a number of jobs in the village including working all the way up the ranks to chief of police before serving eight years as village manager.

“Dan will certainly be missed by the Village and we sincerely hope that he will remain an active member in our community,” said Knigge in a news release.

David Geary, the village’s director of public works and building and zoning, will take over as acting village manager before a permanent replacement is selected.

“Dave Geary is also very knowledgeable about the current projects and issues facing the village and he is an excellent choice to support the board as we continue moving forward,” Knigge said.

Quick is a member of the Waucondafest Committee and past president and board member of both the Wauconda Park District Park Board and Wauconda Community Unit School District 118. He serves on the Wauconda Volunteer Fire Department board and had been a firefighter and paramedic in the past. Quick also served as president of the Wauconda Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club.

“Dan is a lifelong Wauconda resident who is passionate about serving our community and making it a better place to live,” said Knigge.
