Candidates who won’t raise taxes

My dad and I own and operate the Brach’s Service Center on Highlake Road, as well as being lifelong Winfield residents. In the past two years I have watched my fees to the village steadily increase, while my services have decreased.

Over that same period of time, the village board has voted to raise our water and sewer rates not once, not twice, but three times. These increases have made Winfield one of, if not, the most expensive town to receive Lake Michigan water in DuPage County.

For reasons unknown to me, the village board caved to Waste Management’s request to renegotiate their existing waste contract, once again increasing the cost of services to the residents. If that wasn’t bad enough, for the first time in 14 years we now have to pay to have our leaves hauled away.

The village board has failed to come up with a solution to stop the continued escalation in real estate taxes, except to pass the burden onto the residents. On top of all of this, the village trustees voted unanimously to place two referendums on the ballot to increase our taxes.

I know Tony Reyes and Tim Allen very well and can tell you with absolute certainty they will not raise our taxes. In this economy we need village trustees that represent the taxpayers and our community’s interest. That’s why I’m casting my votes for Tony Reyes and Tim Allen for the village board.
