Delnor-Central DuPage merger passes state hurdle

State officials Monday approved the merger of Delnor and Central DuPage Hospital systems.

The Health Services and Facilities Review board signed off on the request for exemption regarding an ownership change of a health care facility.

According to a state report, no substantive changes at either hospital are planned for at least the next 12 months, the new entity will retain ownership or control for at least three years, no services will be eliminated and the number of beds will be maintained. The new owner will be CDH-Delnor Health System. The hospitals will retain their respective names.

No one filed any objections to the merger.

“We are very pleased with the board’s approval. It represents a major milestone in the process and confirms that the merger of Delnor and CDH will be positive for the communities we serve in the Western suburbs and beyond,” said Brian Griffin, Delnor’s director of marketing and public relations.

Griffin said the Delnor and CDH boards of directors will vote on final approval this week, and then the final step will be preparing the legal documents for signing by the end of the month.

On Dec. 17 the hospitals’ chief executive officers signed an agreement to merge the two.

Central DuPage has a 313-bed hospital in Winfield, along with convenient-care centers, occupational health services, home and hospice care, and a cancer-treatment center. It is a partner in a new proton therapy cancer treatment center in Warrenville.

Delnor is a 159-bed hospital. Delnor Health Systems also owns Delnor Health and Wellness Center in Geneva, Delnor Glen Senior Living center in St. Charles and the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center in Geneva.

Delnor was formed in 1986 by a merger of Delnor Hospital of St. Charles and Community Hospital of Geneva. It opened the Randall Road campus in 1991.
