U-46 adult education staff member earns statewide recognition
The district strives to support the education of not just our young charges in K-12, but also those seeking to improve their lives through Adult Basic Education and GED classes. For the past 25 years the advocate and heart of the U-46 Adult Education program has been Pam Leas.
Pam was named Outstanding Adult Education Support Staff of the Year by the Illinois Adult and Continuing Educators Association (IACEA) at their annual conference in Springfield on March 10.
The award recognized her commitment to adult and continuing education. Her acceptance of each learner's cultural and ethnic uniqueness, and ability to provide a non-threatening, supportive atmosphere were some of the qualities that earned her this award.
Pam has developed partnerships with many agencies and programs in the area to continue the work of supporting our adult students.
Morris Mallory, director of alternative programs for U-46, was on hand to help present the award. Over 400 students are served by this program every year.
