The Cycling Sisters: Adventures on the Lewis & Clark Trail

The Arlington Heights Historical Museum presents a program and reception on Saturday, April 16, at 2:00 p.m. Sisters and senior citizens, Evie Weber and Norma Witherbee have toured the country by bicycle for over 30 years. In 2004 they covered 11 states and 3,400 miles following the Lewis & Clark Trail. They planned their trek to reach St. Charles, Missouri in time for the re-enactment of the departure of the Lewis and Clark expedition. This historic event marked the 200th anniversary of the Corps of Discover.

Their adventure of a lifetime titled “The Corps of Miss-Adventure” (because they did not want to MISS any adventures) started on May 20th, 2004 in Hartford, Illinois ending 88 days later in Astoria, Oregon.

This memorable slide show brings to life their remarkable journey of cycling the back roads of America, meeting her people and, by using their wits, will tell you how they survived severe thunderstorms, extreme heat, and threatening logging trucks just to name a few.

This program highlights the final week of the Heritage Gallery exhibit "On the Move in Arlington Heights." Join us for refreshments, view the gallery exhibit and enjoy a very entertaining travelogue from two very interesting travelers. The program is free; please call the museum at 847-255-1225 to reserve your seat. The Museum is located at 110 W. Fremont Ave., Arlington Heights.
