For Elgin Community College Board: Duffy, MacKinney, Dalton
Voters for the Elgin Community College Board of Trustees have five solid candidates from which to choose. Two incumbents are running for three six-year seats. They include John Duffy, a retired school administrator; and Eleanor “Ellie” MacKinney, a small-business owner. Also running are three challengers; John G Dalton, an attorney; Richard Geary, a groundskeeper; and Robin Lisboa, an administrator. Each candidate has an appropriate view on the balance of fiscal responsibility and affordable education. Incumbents have been part of the team that is committed to successful initiatives to prepare students for college. Also, they have communicated effectively about college issues, most notably including a recent tuition rate increase, and so Duffy and MacKinney are endorsed. We give a slight edge to John G. Dalton for the third seat as his thorough knowledge of college policy will give him a chance to hit the ground running.
